Under the BC Motor Vehicle Act, all passengers are required to wear a seatbelt whenever one is provided while the vehicle is in operation. Passengers are encouraged to fasten their seatbelt after taking a seat and keep it securely fastened until the bus comes to a complete stop.
Child seats and booster seats
If your child is under 9 years of age they must be secured by one of the following:
- Held on a guardian’s lap.
- Buckled into a seatbelt using an appropriate child seat or booster seat when the bus has shoulder belts.
- In a stroller with brakes applied.
- Some buses are equipped with an Integrated Child Seat (ICS) with a 5-point harness, and should be used.
- Do not use a booster seat with only a lap belt.
Seatbelt extenders
- Only BC Transit supplied OEM extenders may be used (Personal extenders not allowed)
- Use only if the seatbelt doesn’t reach after testing.
