VICTORIA – The Victoria Regional Transit Commission (VRTC) wants
your opinion on proposed transit priority measures in the region. The proposed
measures include bus-only lane options for Douglas Street, queue jumper lanes
at two intersections on McKenzie Avenue and queue jumper lanes at three intersections
on Island Highway between View Royal and Colwood.
In order to bring consultation to the community the ‘Transit Future Bus’,
a decommissioned 40-foot bus that’s been repurposed as a portable interactive
tool, will travel around Greater Victoria from June 5 to 10, 2013. BC Transit
staff will be onboard to seek input and answer questions.
“Be a part of the solution,” said Susan Brice, Chair of the VRTC.
“Congestion is a growing frustration for many Greater Victoria commuters.
We need the public to help direct the Commission as it aims to get public transit
moving in a more efficient and sustainable fashion.”
Here’s your chance to steer the future of transit in Greater Victoria.
If you cannot attend one of the open houses, the recommendations can be found
online at www.bctransit.com/transitfuture Fill out the public consultation survey
and help the VRTC drive important improvements in the Victoria Regional Transit
System.
A summary of the findings from the open houses and online surveys will be presented
to the Commission at its next regularly scheduled meeting on June 27, 2013.
