Whistler, B.C. – The Whistler Transit System is extending its full Winter level of service by six days until the end of the Whistler Cup on April 3, 2016.
Normally, winter service runs until Easter Monday, but since that falls on March 28 this year and resort bookings and transit ridership have remained strong, the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) and BC Transit have decided to continue winter service for the additional days.
Winter transit will also get an extra boost from Whistler Blackcomb, which is extending its late night and early morning free service on Route 7-Staff Housing during the same period.
“I applaud this nimble approach by the RMOW, BC Transit and Whistler Blackcomb to adjust the transit schedules so that we can meet the demands of our guests and residents through until the beginning of April,” said Whistler Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden. “This will be a great benefit to everyone taking the transit system during that time.”
Joel Chevalier, Vice President of Employee Experience at Whistler Blackcomb said, “The success of the Staff Housing bus service continues to be a reflection of the partnership between the RMOW, Gibbon’s Hospitality, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Maxx Fish, Moe Joe’s, Kokanee and BC Transit. Extending the days of service will have a positive impact on the resort and the safety of Glacier Park residents.”
Whistler’s transit service will ramp down on Monday, April 4 for the Late Winter period (see “Key Dates” below).
Every year the Whistler Transit System reduces its service hours to Spring/Summer/Fall levels, matching decreased demand during that time. As a transition between full Winter and Spring/Summer/Fall service, extra trips are added to the Spring/Summer/Fall service for the Late Winter and Early Winter periods. Service returns to the higher levels during the busy winter months.

Funding for the Whistler Transit System is cost shared between the RMOW and BC Transit. Decisions about fares, routes, and service levels are made by the RMOW.
