Winter seasonal service changes take effect in Victoria

VICTORIA – BC Transit is implementing our annual winter seasonal service change in the Victoria Regional Transit System effective January 6, 2020.

BC Transit works hard to match service with demand, this service change will see the return of increased service on a number of routes after seasonal reductions in December due to lower demand.

BC Transit experienced a 7.5 per cent increase in boardings in September and October 2019 compared to September and October 2018. Increased ridership, significant congestion largely due to major construction projects, and some operational challenges contributed to service reliability challenges

With these in mind, this service change will also include schedule changes to select routes in order to provide for dynamic scheduling, match demand, and improve on-time performance. The service changes being implemented in the winter of 2020 also reflect better data collected from our automatic passenger counters and NextRide systems.

BC Transit will be making improvements to service over the coming year, including the introduction of 80 new replacement and expansion buses, the introduction of new southbound bus lanes, and starting a refresh on our Transit Future Action Plan to determine the best options for the future of the transit system.

BC Transit thanks our customers for their commitment to sustainable transportation.
