Transit System: Cowichan Valley
COWICHAN VALLEY REGIONAL DISTRICT – BC Transit would like to notify its valued customers in the Cowichan Valley Regional District that any potential job action has been delayed as a result of a tentative agreement reached today by both parties. This tentative agreement still requires formal ratification by both parties. Regular service continues in the meantime.
The labour dispute is between BC Transit’s contractor – First Canada – and their unionized employees. First Canada operates the fixed-route service in the Cowichan Valley and Ladysmith, as well as the commuter service connecting the Cowichan Valley and Victoria.
BC Transit, and the Cowichan Valley Regional District will communicate if there are any service issues as we become aware of them.
This potential job action does not affect handyDART services in the Regional District, nor does it apply to local service in the Lake Cowichan area (Routes 20 and 21). However, Route 7 connections between Lake Cowichan and Duncan are subject to potential service disruption.
BC Transit will continue to closely monitor the situation.
