Transit System: Chilliwack
CHILLIWACK – The City of Chilliwack and BC Transit are pleased
to announce an extra 7,500 annual service hours are being added to the local
transit network. The largest expansion in the history of Chilliwack Transit
takes effect September 1, 2013. Two more conventional buses are being assigned
to the fleet to accommodate the expansion.
The Route #1 Vedder will be extended to better serve the University
of the Fraser Valley in the south and Chilliwack Middle and Secondary Schools
in the north.
The expansion will see the introduction of two new routes that will bring transit
services closer to residential areas and better serve the Chilliwack and Cottonwood
malls. Route #7 Broadway will serve west Chilliwack and Route #8 Tyson
will link neighbourhoods in the south.
Other improvements include longer service hours until approximately 10 pm six
days a week and statutory holiday service at Sunday levels.
Customers should note the Chilliwack Transit transfer policy is being amended.
Transfers will be valid for 60-minutes and in one-direction only.
“Constant improvements to transit keep service fast and efficient, while
ensuring continued access to places, such as the University of the Fraser Valley,”
said Chilliwack MLA John Martin. “All partners in this ambitious and bold
step-forward are to be congratulated for working together to bring about the
largest transit expansion in Chilliwack’s history.”
Also effective September 1, 2013 fares are changing. The last fare increase
in Chilliwack was in 2008.
