Transit Service and Fare Change in September

POWELL RIVER – BC Transit customers in Powell River will notice changes to the current schedule effective September 4, 2012. In order to maximize transit service, the City of Powell River has decided to adjust evening hours Monday to Thursday.

Earlier this year, local government officials voted to increase fares. These new rates take effect September 1, 2012.

Advisory Highlights:

Zone 1 >cash fares: $2 adults (former fare $1.75)
$1.75 seniors/students (former fare $1.50)
>prepaid tickets: $$16 adults (former fare $15)
$14 seniors/students (former fare $13)
>monthly passes: $45 adults (former fare $42)
$34 seniors/students (unchanged)
Zone 2 >cash fares: $2.50 adults (former fare $2.25)
$2.25 seniors/students (former fare $2)
>prepaid tickets: $22.50 adults (former fare $20)
$20.25 seniors/students (former fare $17)
Zone 3 >cash fares: $6 adults (former fare $5.50)
$2.75 seniors/students (former fare $2.50)

All revenue collected is shared between the City of Powell River and the Regional District of Powell River to help offset the cost of running transit for local taxpayers. Powell River was one of BC Transit�s best year-over-year performers. In BC Transit�s Annual Report, ridership in Powell River was up 13% with 228,000 trips in 2011/12 compared to 201,000 rides in 2010/11.
