Transit Ridership on the Rise

KITIMAT – The District of Kitimat and BC Transit are delighted to announce transit ridership is on the rise – up 6.1% over last year. In its recently published annual report, BC Transit recorded 144,125 passenger trips in 2012/13 compared to 135,890 trips in 2011/12.

The strong and steady growth in the Kitimat Transit System is a reflection of both a user-friendly service and the overall influx of people and industry to the region.

“We are pleased to see that there a growing number of transit customers in the Kitimat region,” said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “The increase in passenger trips affirms public transit is efficient and effective whether you are a newcomer or a long-time resident.”

“High quality public transit has been available in Kitimat, seven days a week, for many years,” said Mayor Joanne Monaghan. “With our community growing at a fast pace, more people will rely on this already well-used service.”
