Transit Ridership on the Rise

PORT EDWARD – The District of Port Edward and BC Transit are delighted to announce transit ridership is on the rise – up 5.3% over last year. In its recently published annual report, BC Transit recorded 34,927 passenger trips in 2012/13 compared to 33,179 trips in 2011/12.

Students are the backbone of the Port Edward Transit System during the school year with strong support from middle school and high school students. Plus the steady growth in transit passengers is a reflection of the overall influx of people and industry to the region.

“We are pleased to see there are a growing number of transit customers in the Port Edward region,” said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “The community at large should be celebrating this accomplishment and in particular we congratulate students who are champions of affordable, environment-friendly and convenient public transit.”

“We are very happy to see growth in the number of residents using transit service,” said Port Edward Mayor Dave MacDonald. “On behalf of the District we would like to thank everyone that has continued to support the Port Edward Transit System.”
