Transit Rider Appreciation Day

COMOX VALLEY – Monday, October 29, 2012 it’s treats only and no tricks as BC Transit and the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) celebrate the community’s dedicated transit riders.

What a way to start the work and school week! Coffee, treats and prizes will be doled out at five prominent transit locations throughout the Comox Valley.

Rider Appreciation Day begins in Downtown Courtenay (4th and Cliffe) from 7:45 am to 8:45 am. The roving coffee, treat and prize crew make their next stop at Buckley Bay (Ferry Terminal) from 9:30 am to 10:15 am. Comox Valley Transit customers who board in Cumberland (3rd and Dunsmuir) will be greeted with goodies from 11 am to 11:30 am. Oyster River riders (outside Discovery Foods) can expect to enjoy their celebration from noon to 12:30 pm. The final stop is Comox Avenue (outside Comox Mall) from 2:30 pm until 3 pm.

Over the past three years ridership in the Comox Valley has grown by 14.4%. BC Transit and the CVRD would like to thank their customers for their ongoing support and commitment to making public transit their mode of transportation. Each time you choose public transit you are helping to contribute to a better environment and a more sustainable future for us all.

“There were some significant positive actions taken by the Comox Valley transit system over the past year,” said Edwin Grieve, CVRD Board Chair. “Besides improving connections, there was also increased frequency from the expansion of approximately 1,700 service hours, adding the Comox-to-Courtney express connector, the summertime ‘bus to the beach at Goose Spit’ weekend schedule, and additional service on Empire Days, Canada Day and BC Day.”

“The Comox Valley is one of BC Transit’s most dynamic and engaged regions,” said BC Transit President & CEO Manuel Achadinha. “We encourage everyone to come out for Rider Appreciation Day and get to know the Comox Valley Transit system better.”
