KELOWNA – March 18, 2015 is Transit Driver Appreciation Day. BC Transit and Kelowna Regional Transit are celebrating by saluting some of the extraordinary men and women who go the extra mile (kilometer) to safely provide exceptional customer service.
Why March 18? It is believed to be the debut of transit services in Paris in 1662. For more details on Transit Driver Appreciation consult www.transitdriverday.org On the website, you will find transit driver thank you cards. BC Transit encourages our customers to print off a card for their favourite driver or to thank operators when they depart the bus.
Kelowna Regional Transit is proud of all employees and would like to send a special salute to one operator. Frank Teichmann is marking his 10th anniversary behind the wheel.

Frank is the most requested member of the peer-to-peer defuser program, where operators assist their colleagues who are in need of counseling following a challenging situation on the job.
Frank is a holiday hero in Kelowna. For seven years, he’s been the team lead on the Santa Sleigh Bus. Nearly $300,000 in donations has been collected over the history of the Santa Sleigh Bus. The charitable program began in 2003.
Frank is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kelowna Bonsai Club, Kasugai Association and Boys Scouts of Canada. He’s been married to Lana for 33 years. They have three grown children.
“Local transit users appreciate the great customer service they receive each day from the friendly face behind the wheel,” says Kelowna-Lake Country MLA Norm Letnick. “Congratulations to Frank on ten years of dedicated service to our community.”
“Every day, residents of Kelowna rely on a transit system that is safe, comfortable and reliable,” says Kelowna-Mission MLA Steve Thomson. “Drivers like Frank are a big part of that success, and we thank him for his contributions.”
“BC Transit operators work hard all year long as our front-line ambassadors, providing outstanding customer service,” said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “On Transit Driver Appreciation Day, I invite the public to join me in thanking our drivers for delivering daily on the company’s core values of safety, integrity and customer service.”
