Transit Driver Appreciation Day

WHISTLER _ Tomorrow is Transit Driver Appreciation Day. BC Transit and the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) are celebrating on March 18, 2014 by saluting some of the extraordinary men and women who go the extra mile (kilometer) to safely provide exceptional customer service.

Whistler Transit celebrates all of its employees and would like to send a special salute to Satnam Sekhon on Transit Driver Appreciation Day.

Satnam Sekhon is in his 12th year of driving transit and is calm and poised even in the RMOW’s most challenging weather conditions. He is a generous transit ambassador who assists locals and tourists with warmth and kindness. “Serving people is more than a job for me,” says Satnam. “It is something that I work on in my life in general.”

When Satnam isn’t behind the wheel, he is a soccer dad who volunteers at many community events including at the annual Vaishakhi Festival in Squamish.

“The men and women of BC Transit get us to our destination safely, despite the often challenging weather conditions in our region. On behalf of the community, I’d like to thank them for providing exemplary service to our residents and visitors,” said West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA Jordan Sturdy.

“The RMOW would like to thank the drivers for driving so professionally over the busy Christmas, Family Day and Presidents Day periods when the buses and roads are full. We also appreciate their feedback, which continually improves the service,” said Whistler Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden.

“For 365 days of the year, the men and woman of BC Transit work hard to provide outstanding transit services to our customers,” said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “March 18 marks Transit Driver Appreciation Day and I invite the public will join me in thanking our drivers for delivering on the company’s core values of safety, integrity and customer service.”

Why March 18? It is believed to be the debut of transit services in Paris in 1662.
