Transit System: Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE _ Tomorrow is Transit Driver Appreciation Day. BC Transit and the City of Prince George are celebrating on March 18, 2014 by saluting some of the extraordinary men and women who go the extra mile (kilometer) to safely provide exceptional customer service.
Why March 18? It is believed to be the debut of transit services in Paris in 1662. For more details on Transit Driver Appreciation consult http://transitdriverday.org/ On the website, you will find transit driver thank you cards. BC Transit encourages our customers to print off a card for their favourite driver or to thank operators when they depart the bus.
Bob McCauley started driving buses for the Provincial Transit Authority in 1972, before BC Transit existed. In Bob’s 42-year career he has logged 1.6 million kilometres. His customer service and safety records have been exemplary. Bob is well known in Prince George and has watched his customers grow from students, to adults and grandparents.
Next month, Bob will put the brakes on his storied career. His colleagues and customers and his employer, Pacific Western Transportation, will sorely miss his depth of experience and his tremendous commitment to transit passengers.
“We all know the important service that transit drivers provide every day in communities right across our province. It is so important to say thank you and what better day than Transit Driver Appreciation Day,” said Shirley Bond, MLA for Prince George-Valemount. “I want to say a special thank you to Bob McCauley for his decades of service and wish him well in the next phase of his life. If you use BC Transit in Prince George tomorrow, why not say thanks to your driver? They certainly deserve it!”
“BC Transit drivers in Prince George work hard, throughout our four very distinct seasons,” says Mayor Shari Green of the City of Prince George. “These drivers present a great first impression for BC Transit, and they deserve our thanks for the work they do delivering passengers safely to their destinations around Prince George.”
“For 365 days of the year, the men and woman of BC Transit work hard to provide outstanding transit services to our customers,” said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “March 18 marks Transit Driver Appreciation Day and I invite the public will join me in thanking our drivers for delivering on the company’s core values of safety, integrity and customer service.”
