VICTORIA – The Victoria Regional Transit Commission (VRTC) and the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA) are proud to announce that free transit passes are rolling out to new refugee families in the Capital Region.

On December 8, 2015 the VRTC voted to supply refugees, regardless of country of origin, a year’s worth of free transit from the time of their arrival in Victoria. The program is funded by the VRTC, and administered by BC Transit and the ICA.

To enroll in the free transit program newcomers with refugee background who have arrived or will be arriving between December 1, 2015 to December 31, 2016 need to go to the ICA for an intake session to be enrolled in the bus pass program.

“We are pleased to offer one year of free transit within the Victoria Regional Transit System to refugees who will call our area home,” said Susan Brice, Chairperson of the Victoria Regional Transit Commission. “Partnering with the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria helps us get these passes distributed in a timely manner.”
