BC Transit and its local government partners work hard to match service with demand and provide reliable transportation services for customers.
Like other systems across the province, the Smithers Transit System is currently experiencing service challenges. The current impacts to service have resulted in the need to slightly alter schedules on short notice to reflect current conditions within the system. These changes should not be cause for significant concern and are a result of a temporary driver shortage.
The impacts to service have resulted in the need to alter schedules on routes 22 and 23 on short notice to reflect current conditions in the Smithers Regional Transit System. The 162 and163 intercommunity routes are not impacted at this time.
For the route 22 Smithers/Telkwa, the two morning trips prior to 9 a.m. and the afternoon trip in the 5 p.m. hour have been temporarily cancelled. For the route 23 Smithers/Witset, the previously scheduled 7:30 a.m. trip will now depart at 8:00 a.m.
To minimize the impact these service challenges are having on customers, BC Transit and the operating company are posting alerts on the website as service reductions are confirmed at https://www.bctransit.com/smithers/home.
BC Transit encourages customers to check for alerts regularly and sign up to receive route-specific email notifications at https://www.bctransit.com/smithers/schedules-and-maps/alerts.
BC Transit appreciates the patience of customers during this time, and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
