VICTORIA – BC Transit and the Mustard Seed Food Bank are looking
for your help to Stuff the Bus this spring.
A BC Transit double decker bus will be parked at the Tillicum Mall Safeway
(3170 Tillicum Road) on Friday, June 21, 2013 from 7 am to 7 pm.
Donations of non-perishable food items, toiletries and cash will be greatly
appreciated. Breakfast and lunch (by donation) will be served.
“We are heading into a challenging time of the year for the most vulnerable
populations in Greater Victoria who rely on food banks,” explains Brent
Palmer, Mustard Seed Food Bank Director. “During the summer months, school
lunch programs are no longer available to the 1,700 children who are fed every
month by generous donations to the Mustard Seed.”
“BC Transit is pleased to partner with the Mustard Seed to help collect
much needed food and cash donations,” said Manuel Achadinha, BC Transit
President and CEO. “Even a small donation of cash can make a big difference.
The Mustard Seed doubles every dollar it receives through discount buying at
participating retailers and suppliers.”
Stuff the Bus was started by BC Transit operators Jim Pullan and Randy White
in 2002. Over the past eleven years, $118,136 worth of food, cash and other
donations have been collected by BC Transit staff.
BC Transit would like to thank the Tillicum Safeway for both food donations
and its continuing support. We would also like to recognize other contributors
to Stuff the Bus, the unions who represent our employees; CAW Local 333, COPE
Local 378 and CUPE Local 4500.
