Service expansion carves into the Whistler Transit System

WHISTLER – Beginning on Saturday, November 16, Whistler’s Early-Winter transit schedule will take effect in the Whistler Transit System with the seasonal return of the free route 4 Marketplace shuttle and additional service on other local routes.

Early-Winter Extra Service trip times are listed in the current Rider’s Guide.

Starting on Saturday, December 7, transit customers in Whistler can expect service improvements alongside regular seasonal services changes to make their way to the transit system. Thanks to a 500-service hour expansion, Full Winter Service in the Whistler Transit System will now begin on December 7 instead of the usual December 15 start date. This means there will be more frequent buses earlier to match the start of the busy ski season when ridership begins to peak.

BC Transit and the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) are pleased to offer earlier Full Winter Service. The expansion will also see the route 10 Valley Express offer eight additional trips for customers travelling between neighbourhoods north and south of Whistler Village, removing the need to transfer buses in Whistler Village.

Routes 20 Cheakamus, 21 Spring Creek and 30 Alpine, will see minor schedule adjustments as a result of the service change.

BC Transit and the RMOW work hard to match service with ridership demand, which is why we offer more service in the winter and summer and less in the spring and fall.

Quotes

“We work in close partnership with BC Transit as they continually deliver convenient, reliable, and accessible transit services for communities. This 500-hour service expansion and early start to full winter service is great news for people who live in Whistler, and we hope it will encourage more people to get out of their cars and take transit instead.”

Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation

“Getting more people on transit is a significant priority for the RMOW to help reduce our community’s climate footprint. The Route 10 Valley Express has proven to be an efficient and welcome route for people looking to minimize time spent commuting and help get more people on the bus. These additional transit service hours help move us in the right direction when it comes to reducing our carbon emissions.”

Jack Crompton, Mayor, Resort Municipality of Whistler

“BC Transit is pleased to provide Full Winter Service earlier in Whistler this year. This expansion will allow many of our customers, who rely on transit for their daily commute, to take full advantage of the service to get to and from their destination during the busy ski season.”

Erinn Pinkerton, President and Chief Executive Officer, BC Transit
