Transit System: Dawson Creek
DAWSON CREEK – Back by popular demand, BC Transit and the City of Dawson
Creek are teaming up to provide a second annual bus awareness tour for seniors.
The June 20, 2012 tour is designed to help seniors learn more about navigating
their city using public transportation.
The day-long tour is already sold out. Twenty-nine seniors will be picked up
at their homes. Their first bus stop is at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery and
other key destinations on the #3 Central Route will follow. The ultimate destination
is a better understanding of the transit system and a return to independence
for seniors who, for a number of reasons, are no longer driving.
“CASI (Community Action of Seniors’ Independence) would like to thank
BC Transit and the City of Dawson Creek for sponsoring the bus tour, “
said CASI Volunteer Coordinator Arlene Thorpe. “We believe that being able
to have control of your own transportation needs is integral to personal independence.
CASI supports seniors becoming more engaged in their communities and sharing
their wealth of knowledge and expertise.” – CASI is a joint project
of the South Peace Seniors’ Access Services Society and South Peace Community
Resources Society. It is jointly funded by the Province of British Columbia
and the United Way of the Lower Mainland
