School's Out and Transit Rides Are Free

DUNCAN – When that last school bell heralds the official start of summer, BC Transit and the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) have a special reward for students: five days of free bus rides.

From Monday, June 27 through Friday, July 1, students from kindergarten through Grade 12 will be able to ride Cowichan Valley Regional Transit buses including eligible handyDART registrants for free just by showing their valid student ID.

“We are pleased to offer this new promotion to youth in the valley as a way for them to experience the local bus service and hopefully make it part of a new routine,” says CVRD Chair Jon Lefebure.

The “School’s Out” program is designed to encourage students to take the bus throughout summer holidays – and beyond. (The “School’s Out” program does not apply to commuter bus routes – 66 Duncan/Victoria and 99 Shawnigan Lake/Victoria.)

Students are reminded that on Friday, July 1, local transit services will be operating on a Sunday service schedule for the Canada Day holiday.

BC Transit and the CVRD wish all the students a safe and happy summer.
