Ridership on the Rise in Quesnel

QUESNEL – The City of Quesnel and BC Transit are delighted to announce ridership is on the rise – up 6.3% over last year. In its recently published annual report, BC Transit recorded 77,642 passenger trips in 2012/13 as compared to 73,014 in 2011/12.

A strong and steady growth on both fixed transit routes and on the regional handyDART service are credited with the increase in passengers. A recent service review and public consultation survey found Quesnel Transit scored high marks from its customers. 82% of survey respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with the transit coverage to their homes, 88% said the service is safe and courteous drivers scored highest with a 93% satisfied or very satisfied rating.

“When customers are invested and aware of the many benefits of transit our systems become more efficient and effective,” said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “Together with our partners the City of Quesnel and the Cariboo Regional District, we will continue to work hard to make transit the smart and attractive choice for residents in Quesnel.”

“I am pleased that our residents are increasing their use of the transit system,” said Mayor Mary Sjostrom. “Upcoming improvements will continue to ensure that future ridership demands are being met and that the system is as efficient as possible.”

“As a former city councillor, I know we have a great public transit system here in Quesnel,” and I’m glad to see more people taking advantage of this great service,” said Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes.
