Ridership on the Rise in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE – BC Transit and the City of Prince George are delighted to announce ridership is on the rise – up 12.3% over last year. In its Annual Report, BC Transit celebrated Prince George as a market leader in rides with 2,183,534 in 2011/12 as compared with 1,943,921 in 2010/11.

A strong customer base with the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) helps anchor a robust transit community in Prince George. Before the UPass program was introduced at UNBC, annual ridership hovered around the 1.5 million mark.

Earlier this summer, the Transit Future Bus saw a record turn-out with more than 1,600 people sharing their vision for transit in Prince George over the next 25 years.

“We are inspired by our growing customer base in Prince George,” said BC Transit President & CEO Manuel Achadinha. “We will continue to listen to our riders so that collectively we can make BC Transit the efficient and effective alternative to single occupancy vehicles.”

Prince George Mayor Shari Green says, “The city will continue to work with BC Transit as it acts on citizen feedback and continues to build awareness of the importance and convenience of transit. We know that increased ridership enables system growth, so we are thrilled to be a market leader.”

Thank you, Prince George, for choosing BC Transit. Together we are making communities more sustainable.
