Ridership on the Rise in Campbell River

CAMPBELL RIVER – BC Transit and the City of Campbell River are delighted to announce ridership is on the rise – up 9 per cent over last year. In its Annual Report, BC Transit celebrated Campbell River as a market leader with 608,725 trips in 2011/12 compared with 558,885 in 2010/11.

BC Transit is particularly encouraged with the growing number of Campbell River customers who hold monthly passes or who are buying prepaid tickets. Monthly passes up by 17 per cent for adults and seniors, while college monthly pass holders have climbed 40 per cent this year. Prepaid tickets in Campbell River grew up 10 per cent in 2011/12 fiscal year.

“Attracting new riders is always exciting,” said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “But when we can build long-term relationships with our riders, we know that our system is an effective and efficient alternative to the single occupancy vehicle.”

“We are pleased that the ridership has increased so significantly and that Campbell River residents are encouraged to choose transit as a safe, environment friendly and cost-effective transportation mode,” said Campbell River Mayor Walter Jakeway.

Thank you, Campbell River, for choosing BC Transit. Together we are making communities more sustainable.
