Ridership on a Roll on Salt Spring Island

SALT SPRING ISLAND – The Capital Regional District (CRD), Salt Spring Island Transportation Commission (SSITC) and BC Transit are pleased to announce ridership is up more than 15% when comparing September through December 2012 with September through December 2013.

In September 2013, a modest increase in operating hours was introduced with new service to Walker’s Hook, expanded service to Fernwood and enhanced routing to Vesuvius. The response from Salt Spring Island’s loyal customer base was overwhelming, particularly in Fernwood where ridership has doubled September through December, year over year.

The transit system on Salt Spring Island has increased every year since it first began in 2008 with 45,980 passenger trips. Five years later, passenger trips have more than doubled to 93,013 in 2013.
