COMOX
VALLEY – Take the bus to the Comox Air Show! BC Transit and the Comox
Valley Regional District (CVRD) are providing special bus service to 19 Wing
Comox on Saturday August 17, 2013.
The Air Show service will be operating from 8:30 am to 7 pm. The Air Show
via Comox Mall will start at Cliffe and 4th Avenue. A second route, the
Air Show Park & Ride, will collect passengers at the Comox Valley
Exhibition Grounds and North Island College.
With traffic congestion expected to be high around 19 Wing Comox on Air Show
day, the BC Transit service will be a vital link for families who are looking
for a carefree transportation solution to attend the show.
“We are pleased to help support this popular community event,” said
BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “The BC Transit service
will help reduce traffic congestion and will provide a safe, family-friendly
commute to the Air Show.”
Transit rides on the Air Show Shuttles are free and riders are encouraged to
make a donation to the Comox Valley Transit system to support the cost of providing
the service.
“The Comox Air Show is one of the most anticipated events of the year
and a favourite of families across Vancouver Island,” said Comox Valley
MLA Don McRae. I’m thrilled that BC Transit is offering this by-donation
service. It will ensure everyone in the area has the ability to attend this
fantastic event.”
“In
May this year, the CVRD and BC Transit introduced improvements to the system
for those who commute to work at CFB Comox, and now anyone attending the air
show can take a bus to get on the base,” said Edwin Grieve, CVRD board
chair. “Avoid sitting in traffic, don’t search for hard-to-find parking
– just hop on one of the special shuttle buses and get right to the show
– stress-free.”
The CVRD and BC Transit are giving away 25 pairs of tickets to the Comox Air
Show and other prizes. Participants can enter the draw at www.facebook.com/bctransit
before 11 am on August 12, 2013. You must have a Facebook account and “like”
the BC Transit page. Contest winners will be announced on Facebook and through
email.
The 2013 Comox Armed Forces Day and Air Show celebrates 70 years of Canadian
Air Force history in the Comox Valley. Thrill seekers will flock to see the
CF-18 Demonstration Team and the beloved Snowbirds Air Demonstration Squadron
in action. Plus all ages will marvel at vintage aircraft including a Spitfire,
B-25D Mitchell “Grumpy” and the Cascade Warbirds.
“From the outset, we recognized that traffic congestion will be a major
factor for people attending the air show,” said Major Dwayne Kerr, Air
Show Director. “We received tremendous support from the Comox Valley Regional
District and BC Transit to develop fast and efficient artery bus routes to enable
people to spend less time in traffic and more time at this great family event.”
