Transit System: West Kootenay
NELSON – YOUR TRANSIT, YOUR SAY
April 23, 2012 – BC Transit wants Nelson area residents to shape their
own public transportation future. Nelson Transit is steeped in a rich 100 year
history and now the future of it and the Central Kootenay Transit System is
up to you.
Two open houses will be held on April 26 from 2pm until 7pm at the downtown
Nelson bus exchange and on April 27th from 9am until 1pm at the Chahko Mika
Mall. Nelson residents are urged to vote on proposed changes that include more
direct & frequent transit routes in the City of Nelson, suggested improvements
for regional connections to the North Shore, Castlegar and the Slocan Valley
and a proposed transit hub at Playmor Junction. BC Transit also wants input
on future priorities.
An online survey is also available for people who cannot attend the open houses.
Share your opinion on the future of transit in the Nelson area at www.bctransit.com
until May 8th.
BC Transit will report the findings of the Nelson open houses and the online
survey in the summer of 2012.
By working together, BC Transit aims to make bus service in Nelson convenient,
reliable and appealing for the 265,000 passengers a year it currently serves.
And when local stakeholders take the time to help map a transit future, the
path is paved smoothly and collaboratively.
Service in the area is provided by Nelson Transit and Central Kootenay Transit
and is funded by BC Transit, the City of Nelson and the Regional District of
Central Kootenay.
