Transit System: Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE – Taking the bus in the City of Prince George just got easier for anyone with access to a computer, tablet or smart phone thanks to the expansion of an online transit trip-planning tool.
Prince George Mayor Shari Green and BC Transit Executive Director of Business Development Erinn Pinkerton launched the Transit Trip Planner with the help of the Prince George Council of Seniors.
The Transit Trip Planner, on either Google or Bing maps, is a public transportation planning tool that combines the latest BC Transit schedule and route information with the power of existing, popular search engines. It is a free service that makes trip planning quick and easy for everyone.
The Transit Trip Planner can link customers and the community to some of the most popular BC Transit destinations in Prince George.
“With a growing reliance on the use of technology a tool like this will be very helpful,” Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond said. “It will allow transit users to do trip and route planning directly from the BC Transit website.”
There were more than 2 million passenger trips on BC Transit in Prince George in 2013/14. Tools like the Transit Trip Planner will encourage even more ridership growth, by demonstrating that public transportation is a convenient and reliable alternative to single occupancy vehicles.
“As we head into the winter months, the new BC Transit Trip Planner will help residents plan their travel accordingly and spend less time waiting outside,” says Mayor Shari Green. “Better accessibility to public transit is something we have heard from the community. The Trip Planner, along with the recently added BC Transit-Prince George twitter account, will provide riders with the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding their specified route.”
“Transit customers are demanding user-friendly route information,” said BC Transit Executive Director of Business Development Erinn Pinkerton. “This technology gives existing and new customers a convenient and simple to use tool to plan their transit trips.”
