QUESNEL – The City of Quesnel is getting its first ‘Express Route’ as the transit system continues to grow and mature.
Effective November 18, 2013, a new run called Express Route #4 South Quesnel will run directly along Highway 97 between downtown Quesnel and the South Quesnel shopping area. The Express Route #4 will run three weekday trips and two Saturday trips.
Other transit improvements include minor route changes on Route #1 West Quesnel, Route #2 Red Bluff and Route #3 North Fraser.
A total of 400 hours are being added to the Quesnel Transit System.
“These additional services will attract new riders as well as provide greater convenience for people who use transit,” said Coralee Oakes, Cariboo North MLA. “I’m pleased that BC Transit and local government, with the support of the province, are continuing to address the needs of current transit users and planning for the future.”
“The City of Quesnel is extremely pleased with the new express transit route and additional transit time and we commend BC Transit for their work on the Quesnel Transit Service Review,” said Mayor Mary Sjostrom. “I would also like to thank Five Five Transport and all of the participants who helped design those changes to our transit system.”
BC Transit provided 77,642 passenger trips in Quesnel in 2012/13, up 6.3% over the previous year.
“We look forward to working with our partners at the City of Quesnel to ensure the transit system grows in an efficient and effective way,” said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “The new express route is an exciting addition to an already popular transit service.”
