New fare structures head to Campbell River

CAMPBELL RIVER – BC Transit and the City of Campbell River are announcing a fare change effective June 1, 2020 in the Campbell River Transit System.

Starting June 1, bus riders will now be able to purchase the DayPASS right when they board the conventional transit bus. This will make it more convenient to ride the bus all day within the Campbell River Transit System. As part of the introduction of the DayPASS program, transfers will no longer be available. DayPASSes can be purchased exclusively onboard the bus for $4 or exchanged for two bus tickets.

This upcoming fare change was approved and scheduled to be implemented prior to the no fare collection initiative due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fare changes were postponed in order to align with the return to regular fare collection. These changes are in line with the BC Transit Fare Strategy and improve the funding sustainability for the transit system.

As fare collections return throughout the province, these previously scheduled fare changes will go into effect on June 1, 2020.

Our local government partners approve fare changes months in advance prior to implementation. The last fare change in Campbell River was in 2012.

The June 1 fare change will include the following fare adjustments:
