Transit System: Campbell River
CAMPBELL RIVER – BC Transit ridership is growing in Campbell River
and to better meet the needs of its customers, more transit service hours and
an extra 30 foot bus will be added to the fleet.
In BC Transit’s Annual Report, Campbell River was a top performer with
a 9% increase in ridership. Nearly 609,000 trips were recorded in 2011/12 compared
with 559,000 in 2010/11.
As of September 4, 2012 an additional 2,750 service hours will be added to
BC Transit schedules in Campbell River. The extra hours will mean extended evening
service from Monday through to Wednesday to better match the comprehensive coverage
that already exists on Thursdays and Fridays.
“Growing the use of local bus service is good news that indicates we’re
offering routes and times Campbell River residents consider a viable option,”
says Mayor Walter Jakeway. “More people taking the bus means that the service
is meeting the community’s need. As bus usage grows, the more service will
improve.”
“We are inspired by the growing number of people who are choosing transit
in Campbell River,” said BC Transit President & CEO Manuel Achadinha.
“By adding service hours and another bus we are ensuring transit is more
efficient and effective than ever before.”
