Merritt approves Transit Future Service Plan

The City of Merritt approved a new Transit Future Service Plan (TFSP) for the Merritt Transit System on July 22, 2025.

Through engagement with the public and Nicola Valley Transportation Society, BC Transit and the City of Merritt heard feedback on the current system and potential improvements. As a result of this public survey, the plan proposes that over the next five years improvements should focus on:

  • Service frequency
  • Expanding service to the Bench Neighbourhood and Armstrong Street
  • Enhancing service to Lower Nicola, including evening and Sunday service

This TFSP also calls for investments for transit infrastructure that will improve comfort and safety for our customers, including new bus stop shelters and garbage cans. To achieve these goals set out in the TFSP, more capital and operating investments in the transit system will be required. Final decisions regarding implementing priorities from the TFSP are made by the City of Merritt.
