Four individuals and five teams are being recognized as Transit SuperStars for their professionalism and commitment to public transit and the people in their communities.
“The people being recognized have illustrated that their work goes above and beyond simply getting people where they need to go safely,” said Tim Croyle, Vice President of Operations and Chief Operating Officer for BC Transit. “The latest Transit SuperStars exemplify what it means to care deeply about their customers, coworkers, and communities. BC Transit is grateful for their continued effort and dedication.”
Every year, BC Transit recognizes excellence and celebrates the Transit SuperStars making a positive difference in regional transit systems across the province. Each winner meets one or more of our core values: community, customer service, innovation, safety, teamwork and trust and respect.
Here are the latest Transit SuperStar award winners:
Sam Campbell, Fleet and Facilities Manager, PWTransit Canada – Prince George – With the team since 2007, Sam’s work ethic and team first attitude allowed him to work his way up from a Mechanic Apprentice to eventually managing the entire Prince George Transit fleet and facility. Sam has earned the trust and respect of his coworkers at every level.
Kyriacos Candilaptis, Service Delivery Manager, PWTransit Canada – Whistler – Not only a supervisor, Kyriacos also became the Regional Trainer for all new drivers in the Sea To Sky region and parts of Vancouver Island. His commitment to safety, high standards and positive energy has directly impacted customer safety and the communities he serves.
Okanagan Regional teams, Transdev Canada – Kamloops, Kelowna and Vernon – During a historically devastating wildfire season in 2023, these teams stepped up for their communities and provided essential evacuation transportation at all hours for vulnerable residents. All while maintaining regular transit service and managing their own safety concerns. Their teamwork during this challenging time was inspiring.
Prince George handyDART team, PWTransit Canada – This committed team provides exceptional customer service to the people who require this door-to-door service. They work together to share valuable information on the unique needs of their clients and understand the important role they play in keeping people that might otherwise feel isolated connected to their community.
Smithers Transit team, Smithers Community Services Association – This small team has continued to show a large commitment to their customers and community. The three drivers and dispatcher that make up this tight knit group ensure full service is provided as much as possible, no matter the weather conditions, personal challenges or other issues they may face.
Dean Centrone, LeadHand, City of Nelson – Dean is the winner of the annual Rodi De Vuono Award for Outstanding Service. He started working for the City of Nelson in 1992, and now as the Garage LeadHand, Dean is responsible for maintaining not only the BC Transit fleet but the Public Works, Fire, Police and Nelson Hydro vehicles as well. He is respected by his Mechanic staff and peers and is recognized for his positive energy and willingness to always lend a hand.
Dee Mollett, Administration, Transdev Canada – The winner of the annual Mike Docherty Lifetime Achievement Award, Dee has done it all in her 47 years working in Kamloops public transit. From Receptionist to Shop Coordinator and even Acting Manager, Dee has excelled in every role and has been crucial in helping their Kamloops team meet the goal of providing excellent service to customers. The impact of Dee Mollett is hard to measure, but everyone that has worked with her is grateful for her dedication.
The Transit SuperStar winners are employees working for BC Transit’s regional operating and or local government partners. They were recently recognized and presented with plaques at an awards dinner during BC Transit’s annual workshop in Kelowna. Employees working in the Victoria Regional Transit System are eligible for BC Transit’s Core Value Awards, which take place annually as part of the Recognizing Excellence and Values employee recognition program.
