Kelowna Regional Transit System Service Disruption - Update Nov 21 - 9 am

Kelowna – BC Transit would like to notify its valued customers in the Kelowna Regional Transit System that the on-going work stoppage by the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) – Local 1722 is expected to continue until further notice.

BC Transit recognizes the frustration felt by transit users, and that the work stoppage is difficult for everyone involved in the Kelowna region including those who rely on transit and all those who work in the transit system. We trust the parties equally appreciate this and will find a resolution to restore transit service to the community as soon as possible.

A full work stoppage began on Thursday, November 10, 2016 initiated by the ATU – Local 1722 unionized employees of First Canada – BC Transit’s service contractor in Kelowna. First Canada operates the conventional and handyDART services in the Kelowna region.

All scheduled conventional and handyDART services in the Kelowna Regional Transit System are affected. Essential service levels are being maintained for handyDART patients requiring dialysis. Please note that BC Transit only pays for services rendered by our contracted partners.

BC Transit apologizes to our valued customers for any inconvenience this matter may cause and is closely monitoring the situation. Updates will be provided as new information is available.

BC Transit is advising customers who use public transit to continue making alternative arrangements for their transportation. Information on monthly pass refunds is available at: http://www.kelowna.ca/CM/Page2528.aspx
