Heat warnings in effect throughout province for BC Transit customers

BC Transit reminds customers that Environment Canada has issued heat warnings for many communities in British Columbia, with some extremely high temperatures expected through the long weekend.

Extreme heat affects everyone. The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. It’s important to watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

To reduce your risk of heat-related illness, make sure to:

  • Stay hydrated

  • Avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day

  • Wear light, loose clothing, and a hat

  • If working outside, take breaks and find shade
