BC Transit and the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) are seeking the public’s input on potential fare changes to fixed route (conventional), Route 70 NCX Nanaimo – Cowichan Express (interregional), and handyDART (custom) transit services, and their impact on transit ridership.
The cost of operating transit has increased, as has the demand for service with an ever-growing population. In addition, the RDN has identified accessibility as a priority for the region. A significant level of expansion is needed to improve accessibility and address service demands.
Transit fares are vital to maintaining and enhancing transit services in our region now and in the future. To establish fares that balance affordability, ridership growth and cost recovery in the coming years, BC Transit and the RDN are doing a fare review.
The public survey is part of this review process. The transit fare survey is available online now and will be open until May 31, 2024.
It can be found at engage.bctransit.com/nanaimo-fare-review.
Paper copies of the survey will be available for pick up and drop off at the RDN Transit Office, 6400 Applecross Road. (entrance on Calinda Street)
