handyDART service in Williams Lake to start earlier on Saturdays

WILLIAMS LAKE – In order to continue offering Williams Lake handyDART customers with critical transportation solutions, BC Transit and the City of Williams Lake are making adjustments to handyDART services as part of our response to COVID-19, starting April 18, 2020.

The service change also takes into account having sufficient service to allow for physical distancing while traveling on public transit in BC Transit communities.

The change will include:

  • handyDART service starting at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays to allow customers to attend medical appointments

The response to COVID-19 is a fluid situation that businesses, governments, and people are adjusting to across the country and around the world. BC Transit will continue to monitor available resources and provide service updates on a day-to-day basis.

As our light duty buses do not have a rear door for loading, BC Transit has begun installing vinyl panels to support physical distancing for transit operators and customers. Light duty buses are largely used for handyDART and community transit services.

The vinyl panels are in addition to other supports, which includes:

  • Enhanced cleaning on buses and at BC Transit facilities
  • Communication to staff and customers about physical distancing procedures
  • Not collecting fares

Our team is here for you if you need to travel to get to work, including healthcare facilities or essential service industries, or to get your weekly groceries or a prescription. Please visit BCTransit.com/covid19 for details about our response to COVID-19 including the reduced passenger capacity, vinyl paneling, not collecting fares, and enhanced cleaning on buses and at our facilities.
