Transit System: Cowichan Valley
COWICHAN VALLEY – The Cowichan Valley Regional District and BC Transit are pleased to announce expanded handyDART services in the Cowichan Valley. Effective September 4, 2012 an extra 1,600 service hours (four hours per weekday and eight hours on Saturdays) will be added to better serve the growing need for public transit. With those added service hours, comes an extra custom bus.
In order to reduce service gaps in certain areas of the Cowichan Valley Regional District, a four-month pilot project is being implemented. The project will allow for four hours of service per week to both the Shawnigan Lake area and the Cowichan Lake area (including Honeymoon Bay and Youbou.) Service adjustments will be made when the trial period ends, and BC Transit and the CVRD have a better understanding of ridership needs in those areas.
BC Transit is proud to promote its fully accessible fleet. The handyDART service is door-to-door and available to qualified riders. BC Transit buses in regular service in the Cowichan Valley are equipped with low floors and ramps that accommodate customers with mobility limitations.
