Victoria – Eight employees that exemplify BC Transit’s top core value of safety were honoured on Saturday, May 27. The six new Million Miler Award recipients and two new SAFE Award recipients were recognized by the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia and BC Transit’s President and Chief Executive Officer Manuel Achadinha.
The Million Miler program recognizes drivers that have achieved 20 consecutive years of safe driving without a preventable accident, the approximate equivalent of traveling a million miles. The Million Miler program has been around since 1978 and has 153 members in Victoria. The six new Million Miler Award recipients are Gary Blood, Robert Brown, Wes Ditty, Steven Hale, Robin Klee, and Ron Zicari.
The SAFE Award is a new level of recognition BC Transit has added this year to its overall employee recognition program. The SAFE Award is presented to employees who have achieved 20 consecutive years of safe working without a preventable accident. This recognition is important for employees that are involved in other safety-sensitive operations within the company. The first two SAFE Award recipients are Dave Alder, Mechanic, and Nick Ma, Stockroom Clerk.

This year, we celebrate our country’s sesquicentennial, and so I find it particularly delightful to be hosting these awards at Government House, the ceremonial home of all British Columbians, for the very first time.” said the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.
“Providing a safe, effective and efficient transit service for our customers in Victoria involves a team effort from the maintenance bay to the driver’s seat,” said Manuel Achadinha, BC Transit President and Chief Executive Officer. “Our employees are our greatest asset, and I congratulate this year’s recipients on their significant achievement.”
