Free transit service to mark Remembrance Day

REGIONAL – To commemorate Remembrance Day and to thank the men and women who serve or have served in the Canadian Armed Forces, select communities across B.C. will be offering free transit services to retired and active military personnel.

BC Transit supports those bus drivers who choose to stop their bus, if it is safe to do so, at 11 a.m. on November 11, to observe the traditional minute of silence in memory of those who gave their lives and service in times of war.

Fort St. John

The City of Fort St. John and BC Transit will be offering free service to all bus riders on route 1 Northside and route 2 Southside, which will run on a modified holiday schedule, operating between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on November 11 in honour of Remembrance Day.

handyDART services will also be free between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the Fort St. John Transit System.

Victoria

BC Transit and the Victoria Regional Transit Commission will be offering free service on Monday, November 11 to all riders in uniform, active, retired and cadets, as well as those with Army, Navy or Air Force Association cards.

The free service applies to all routes within the Victoria Regional Transit System.

Cowichan Valley

The Cowichan Valley Regional District and BC Transit are pleased to offer free local bus service to active and retired members of the Canadian Forces from November 4 through 10 to thank them for their service.

Veterans and members of the Canadian Forces with valid ID will be able to take advantage of the free service, which will be offered on regular buses and handyDART. The offer will not apply to commuter routes 44, 66 and 99.

All transit users in the region will be able to ride for free on local routes on Remembrance Day, Monday, November 11. Free transit will be available on both regular routes and handyDART. Please be advised that local routes in Ladysmith, Youbou and Honeymoon Bay do not operate on November 11.

Buses will return to regular service in Fort St. John, Victoria and the Cowichan Valley on Tuesday, November 12. For more information on routes, schedules and alerts, please visit bctransit.com.
