In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the District of Kitimat and BC Transit will be offering free service on September 30, 2021 in the Kitimat Transit System.
Free transit will be available on routes 1 Whitesail, 2 Nechako, 3 Kildala and 4 Crosstown. The free service extends to handyDART as well. Service will be operational at standard weekday service on all conventional routes.
This year, the Government of Canada passed legislation to make September 30 a federal statutory holiday called the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is an important step in the reconciliation process. It provides an opportunity to recognize and commemorate the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools, and to honour their survivors, their families and communities.
Please be advised that BC Transit continues to follow the guidance of the PHO and WorkSafeBC, and face coverings are currently mandatory on all buses and at bus stops.
