Free Transit on Remembrance Day

COWICHAN VALLEY, B.C. – The Cowichan Valley Regional District and BC Transit will offer free transit service to veterans and members of the Canadian Forces for the week of November 5 to 11, 2012.

This free service will be provided to any military personnel in uniform, and those showing Army, Navy and Air Force association cards.

Plus all transit users can take advantage of free rides on Remembrance Day, November 11, within the Cowichan Valley Transit System.

“The Cowichan Valley Regional District would like to thank all those past and present members of the Canadian Forces who have served our country. In appreciation and respect of your service we are once again pleased to partner with BC Transit to offer Remembrance Day free transit,” said Rob Hutchins, Chair, Cowichan Valley Regional District.

“I encourage residents to take advantage of transit free rides where possible within the Cowichan Valley Transit System on Remembrance Day, November 11, and attend the many Remembrance Day Ceremonies held throughout the valley,” said Ian Morrison, Chair, Cowichan Valley Transit Committee.

BC Transit encourages operators, when it is safe to do so, to stop their bus at 11:00 a.m. to observe the traditional minute of silence in honour of Canadians who have served our country.

“Providing free service to Cowichan Valley residents on Remembrance Day is a small gesture to honour the significant sacrifices made by veterans and members of the Canadian Forces,” said Manuel Achadinha, President and CEO, BC Transit.

The free service will also include handyDART within the Cowichan Valley, but excludes the Cowichan Valley Commuter to Victoria.
