Free Transit on Remembrance Day

FORT ST. JOHN – The City of Fort St. John and BC Transit will offer free transit service on Remembrance Day, November 11, 2012.

The free rides will be offered only on routes #1 and #2 from 8:15 am – 12:35 pm and again from 2:45 pm – 7:15 pm on Remembrance Day only.

Customers who rely on handyDART can take advantage of free Remembrance Day transit trips between 8 am – noon and again from 3:30 pm – 7 pm.

BC Transit encourages operators, when it is safe to do so, to stop their bus at 11:00 am to observe the traditional minute of silence in honour of Canadians who have served our country.

“Remembrance Day is the one special day in the year that we can come together at our local Legion to remember and thank our veterans,” said Fort St. John Mayor Lori Akerman. “The City is proud to be able to partner together with BC Transit to provide free transit for our residents.”

“Providing free service to Fort St. John residents on Remembrance Day is a small gesture to honour the significant sacrifices made by veterans and members of the Canadian Forces,” said Manuel Achadinha, President and CEO of BC Transit.
