KITIMAT – April 22, 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of public transit
in Kitimat. BC Transit and the District of Kitimat are celebrating with free
transit service all day long! Take advantage of the free service and stop by
the Customer Appreciation Celebration from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at City Centre
Mall bus stop. Local government officials, BC Transit staff, and employees of
our operating partners in Kitimat, First Canada ULC and Kitimat Minibus Ltd.,
will be handing out cookies, tea and coffee to our customers.
Kitimat Transit operates seven days a week with three local routes. Plus there
are strong regional connectors to Kitamaat Village and Terrace through Skeena
Regional Transit.
In 2013/14, BC Transit provided more than 184,000 passenger trips in Kitimat
which was a 3% increase over the previous year. Kitimat Minibus delivered 4,337
TaxiDART passenger trips in 2013/14.
“For 40 years, passengers, local government, First Canada and BC Transit
have contributed to a successful transit system,” said Minister of Transportation
and Infrastructure Todd Stone. “As the region grows with new industries,
transit will continue to provide an important service to the communities.”
“Transit services in Kitimat have been well-used for decades,” said
Mayor Joanne Monaghan. “With our community growing at a fast pace, more
and more people will rely on public transportation in the years to come.”

have made this system such a success.”
