Free Rides on Access Awareness Day

FORT ST. JOHN – The City of Fort St. John and BC Transit are pleased to announce all transit rides are FREE on Saturday June 7, 2014. The free rides are in support of Access Awareness Day and apply to conventional service only.

Fort St. John City Council approved the free rides for Access Awareness Day to educate the community at large that conventional transit is accessible for all and may be a viable option for customers who are currently using the handyDART system.

“This is good news for Fort St. John and I commend the council for creating this opportunity for residents to see for themselves how accessible our city’s bus fleet is,” said Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm. “I encourage people who haven’t taken the bus recently to get back on board – it’s more convenient than ever.”

“Accessibility is a key component of building our community and our transit system is a part of that,” said Fort St. John Mayor Lori Ackerman. “We hope everyone takes the time to take a ride!”

“We are proud of our province-wide accessible transit fleet,” said BC Transit President and CEO Manuel Achadinha. “On Access Awareness Day we hope everyone in Fort St. John takes us up on the offer of a free ride, and sees for themselves how efficient and effective transit can be.”
