Fare Changes Start in April

VICTORIA – Effective April 1, 2013 there will be a new fare structure in the Victoria Regional Transit System that will promote pre-paid fares including monthly passes, bulk ticket purchases and DayPASS.

DayPASS prices are dropping to $5, a significant savings from the both the current adult price of $7.75 and the seniors and youth rate of $5.50.

Youth and senior monthly passes will now cost only $45 – down from the current $52. When purchasing a sheet of 10 tickets, seniors and youth will continue to enjoy fares at $1.50 per trip.

There will also be no change in the cost of adult monthly passes and sheets of 10 tickets.

For those customers who prefer to pay with cash, the Victoria Regional Transit Commission is moving to a single cash fare; adults, seniors and youth will all pay $2.50.

The Commission made its decision following a two-month long public consultation process where more than 1,300 people shared their opinion on the fare review. The pre-paid fare discounts and single cash fare were the most popular options for fare review participants especially among seniors and youth.

A friendly reminder, the Family Travel Program allows adults using a DayPASS, Monthly Pass, ProPass or U-Pass to bring up to four children (aged 12 and under) on the bus for free.
