BC Transit and the Regional District of Nanaimo are announcing a seasonal service change, effective September 1, 2024.
This service change will reintroduce seasonal service on select routes that service schools and Vancouver Island University. While most of these trips will continue until June 2025, those trips servicing post-secondary students will end in April.
With plans to add a rapid line in January 2025, the Route 50 will no longer be interlined with the Route 7 Cinnabar/Downtown at all times of the day.
More Route 20 Hammond Bay/Dover Bay trips will go through the Country Club Exchange, with reduced connections at Brooks Landing to the Route 1 Country Club/Downtown.
As part of an expansion to service, more trips are being added to Route 99 Deep Bay on Mondays and Sundays and it will connect with Comox Valley Regional Transit’s Route 10 to Downtown Courtenay at the Crome Point 6 days a week. There will also be additional trips on Friday and Saturdays for the Route 70 NCX Nanaimo-Cowichan Express.
This service expansion in the Regional District of Nanaimo Transit System has been made possible by an increase in local government and provincial funding. The operating grant provided in the 2024-25 provincial budget will allow BC Transit and its local government partners to continue to provide safe and reliable service and demonstrates that public transit remains a priority in our communities.
