BC Transit and the Regional District of Nanaimo are informing transit customers of a seasonal service change, effective September 6, 2026.

To coincide with the start of the school year, trips denoted with ‘S’ in the Rider’s Guide, will resume for the fall season. These include:

  • Route 5 Fairview
  • Route 6 Harewood
  • Route 15 VIU/Woodgrove
  • Route 20 Hammond Bay
  • Route 20A Dover
  • Route 30 NRGH
  • Route 40 VIU Express

Service on Route 92 Hammond Bay will resume as well.

Starting September 6, 2026, the Regional District of Nanaimo will be offering free transit for youth aged 13 to 18. For more information on this program, click here.

As families prepare for the upcoming school year, BC Transit encourages parents and students to visit BusReady to help young people travel with confidence. BusReady offers educational resources, safety information, and practical trip-planning tools that help make the journey to and from school safer, easier and more comfortable for students. BC Transit also reminds customers that children 12 and under ride the bus for free, province-wide.

We encourage our customers to use Umo, Google Transit or any other app of their choice for real-time bus tracking and planning your next transit journey.
