VICTORIA – BC Transit is making several seasonal service adjustments to meet the demand for back to school service. These service adjustments will see the reinstatement of post-secondary and secondary school services that were reduced over the spring and summer. Several routes have also been adjusted in order to service the new Royal Bay and Belmont schools, and provide local transit connections to the schools.
To facilitate the seasonal adjustments, some routes will be temporarily discontinued through the fall and winter. The most notable of these is Route 53 Atkins, which included stops at Thetis Lake. The seasonal adjustments allow BC Transit operations to conserve hours during summer months in order to maximize service hours during peak ridership times when schools are in session.
BC Transit is also debuting new Transit Network maps and On-Street information in the Greater Victoria Area. The new maps, and on-street information shows the frequency of service levels provided by the various routes.
Highlights include:
Phase 2 of the Douglas Street Transit Priority Lanes has been completed. This includes a new northbound bus / bike lane from Fisgard Street to Tolmie Avenue.
Routes #52, #59 and #60 will change to service Royal Bay School
Routes #56, #57 have had their trips scheduled to meet Belmont school bell times
Route #53 Atkins Thetis Lake stops will be discontinued through the fall and winter months. The route will still operate on Atkins, but will not loop into the Thetis Lake Park. Thetis Lake Park stops will be reinstated next summer.
