18 August 2025

BC Transit and the Regional District of Nanaimo are informing transit customers of a seasonal service change, effective August 31, 2025.

The Regional District of Nanaimo, in partnership with the Cowichan Valley Regional District and BC Transit are pleased to announce the introduction of Sunday service for Route 70 Nanaimo-Cowichan Express (NCX).

This service expansion for the NCX has been made possible by an increase in local government and provincial funding. The operating grant provided in the 2025-26 provincial budget will allow BC Transit and its local government partners to continue to provide safe and reliable service and demonstrates that public transit remains a priority in our communities.

To coincide with the beginning of the fall school term, ‘S’ trips will be returned for the following routes across the transit system:

  • 5 Fairview
  • 15 VIU/Woodgrove
  • 20 Hammond Bay
  • 20A Dover
  • 30 NRGH
  • 40 VIU Express
  • 72 Country Club/Downtown

Service on Route 92 Hammond Bay will resume with an increase in school-related ridership.

Minor changes are being made to routes across the system to improve connections and reliability. Please see the latest Rider’s Guide for full schedules.

We encourage our customers to use Umo, Google Transit or any other app of their choice for real-time bus tracking and planning your next transit journey.
