KAMLOOPS – BC Transit and Kamloops RCMP are carrying out a joint, on-site awareness campaign to ensure all customers able to wear a face covering are complying with this important directive from the Provincial Health Officer.
During the morning of Tuesday, December 1 members of the Kamloops RCMP will join BC Transit in handing out face coverings to transit customers at the Lansdowne Exchange when necessary. They will also remind people that a fine of $230 can be handed out for not complying with this policy. A similar campaign will also be taking place at the North Shore Exchange.
By order of the Provincial Health Officer, it is required that customers are wearing face coverings when on board a BC Transit vehicle, unless they meet our exception criteria. The order also requires customers waiting at covered bus stops to wear a face covering. BC Transit supervisors and managers now have authority to enforce compliance with the assistance of local authorities if necessary.
It is important to remember there are reasons a person may not be able to wear a face covering. BC Transit asks customers to please be kind to each other, and if someone is not wearing a face covering to assume they meet our exception criteria.

Complying with the Provincial Health Officer’s mandatory mask order is one way to do that; on transit, in stores, and anytime you can’t maintain physical distancing. Riders protecting riders.”
