Extreme heat warning across province for BC Transit customers

BC Transit reminds customers Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for many communities in British Columbia, with extreme heat temperatures expected through the long weekend.

Extreme heat affects everyone. The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. It’s important to watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Call HealthLinkBC at 8-1-1 to ask about heat-related illness or 2-1-1 for more information. Visit healthlinkbc.ca/health-feature/beat-the-heat for cooling tips. For information on community cooling stations, click here.

To reduce your risk of heat-related illness, make sure to:

Stay hydrated

  • Avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day
  • Wear light, loose clothing, and a hat
  • If working outside, take breaks and find shade

We’re all in this together. Please check on older family, friends and neighbours, and never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

If you are in medical distress or experiencing a medical emergency, please call 9-1-1.
